We believe the future success of QinetiQ depends to a large extent on making sure that we engage with young people. That’s why we recently launched The 5% Club, a joint initiative with liked-minded companies, which aims to encourage as many as possible of the UK’s FTSE350 businesses or equivalent size to commit to having at least 5% of their workforce comprising young people – apprentices, graduates or sponsored students on structured training schemes –within five years. As a founding member, QinetiQ aims to reach the 5% target by 2015.

One way we intend to achieve this target is by recruiting even more graduates – we’ve got 114 graduate roles available for 2014 – and our campaign to reach out to potential candidates has just kicked off. Opportunities exist across a range of sites and cover almost the whole spectrum of our capabilities.

As well as attending a wide range of university and other recruitment fairs, we’re also engaging with students through social media. This year our current graduates are enthusiastically involved in the campaign. On a weekly basis graduates from a different division of the company have been taking over our Twitter and Facebook pages, beginning with OptaSense, followed by Weapons, C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance), Air Division, Security, and TSS (Training and Simulation Services).

Each group are creating their own pages, which might consist of brainteasers, blogs, tweets, photos from their sites, or videos of products they’re working on. The pages also contain profiles of some of our current graduates, giving interested students get a real feel for what our graduate scheme is like.

We’ve also got a dedicated website for the iQ2014 campaign, which provides more information about QinetiQ, expands on the roles available, and gives details of how to apply.

If you or anyone you know is interested in our graduate opportunities, you can find out more about what it’s like to be a QinetiQ graduate by going to Facebook or Twitter. Or get more details about the opportunities available for 2014 and find out how to apply at iQ2014 website or by contacting Siobhan Walsh, our Graduate and Apprentice Resourcing Manager.
